Phonics
Phonics is embracing the elements of print to represent oral language. In this part of the process we are using letters instead of just listening. :) We are applying what we learned from phonological awareness into phonics.
Alphabetic Principle :)
The Alphabetic Principle are words composed of letters that represent sounds. With this children will become familiar with the shapes and names of letters when they play with magnetic letters, alphabet puzzles, and matching games, or form letters out of clay or even shaving cream. We can create letters out of anything we see :)
Syllable Patterns :)
Closed Syllables have short vowel sounds. example- shack, cat,
pack
VCe (vowel, consonant, silent e) makes the
first vowel long. example- lake, shake, hope, shave
Open Syllables makes the vowel long. In these words the vowel opens the mouth.
example- me, be, by, so
Vowel Teams can consist of two, three or four letters. example- show, pea, said, night, boil,
R-controlled syllables is when an "r" is in the syllable and it changes the sound. example-
fork, star, stir, stare.
Final Stable Syllables are found at the end
of words. example- ble, dle, fle, tle (ta-ble,
fid-dle, fable, ti-tle)

Basic Phonics :)
Long A---Bake, Wake, Stake.
Ow--Bow, Wow, Cow
Oy---Boy, Toy.
Oi---Boil, Coil, Soil.
Y---Yolk, Funny, Fry.
Ight---Fright,Height.( This is called a trigraph :)
when "c" or "g" is following by "i" or "e" they
are usually soft---cent, engine.
In a two syllable word the first syllable
or the root word is usually accented or stressed----toothbrush,popcorn, untie. :)
Ow--Bow, Wow, Cow
Oy---Boy, Toy.

Y---Yolk, Funny, Fry.

Making words :)
Here is an activity dealing with phonics if parents do want to help out their children a little bit more. :)
First we the parent or the teacher may say "spell me a word that rhymes with 'pan'. Next, they may grab the letters onto the make a word line and put the word "man". This helps children tremendously because they are seeing it in print and are playing around with letters.

Working with the Students :)
This is a great way for kids to learn about phonics. We can have them use different word families and make words out of them as you see in the picture next to you.
Make a double "ee" to practice phonics :)
This is a great activity to do in the classroom or at home, you can create words when you see something out of a book with the two "ee". This is a very helpful activity to help the study learn about the double letters which are called vowel teams:)
